Happy Presidents’ Day?

It might be because today we’re celebrating President’s Day. Or it could be due to me watching two history channel documentaries on World War II  last night. It might be because I just saw a friend on Facebook post concern and a request for prayer for people being persecuted and killed in Syria.

Anyone who knows me knows that politics, on the whole, disgust me. The money poured into campaigns, if spent to actually make the world a better place, could do loads of good. I’m cynical by nature; I don’t really believe that most politicians are unbiased or even attempt to be. Regardless of my feelings on the subject of politics, I care about people.  I care that there are children who’re sold into slavery and prostitution rings around the world continually. I care that some children only eat the meal they get at school paid for by the government. I care about the homeless people who might not make it through winter. And no matter how much I donate to worthwhile non-profits or promote awareness of the atrocities around me, ultimately I’m pretty powerless to fix things.

I’ve got the world on my mind.

It’s heavy.

Thank God there’s One who can carry it.

“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
